Sapelo Hammock Golf Club (Shellman Bluff, GA) to Celebrate Grand Re-Opening Sept. 9 through 11

(SHELLMAN BLUFF, GA) - Sapelo Hammock Golf Club - closed since June 2010 for renovation and now managed by Billy Casper Golf - will celebrate its grand re-opening Sept. 9 through 11.

The festivities kick-off on Friday, September 9 with a low-country seafood buffet at 7 p.m., live music and a glow ball closest-to-the-pin competition. Tickets are $20 per person.

Saturday and Sunday will feature a special grand re-opening rate of $35 for greens and cart fees, on-course contests, tee gifts for each golfer, and food-and-beverage specials. At 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, the club will host a Sapelo Hammock Golf Club Tailgate with pig roast for the University of Georgia v. University of South Carolina football game.

"We're excited to welcome golfers back to this impressive course," says Shannon Archer, General Manager of Sapelo Hammock. "Sapelo Hammock will once again be known as a preferred local destination for golf, dining and social activities."

"The story of Sapelo Hammock is one of local investors coming together to revitalize the golf course and local economy," says Mike Hardy, President of Shellman Bluff Investors. "More than 70 investors have committed to making Sapelo Hammock a facility that will enhance the community and tourism in McIntosh County."

Shellman Bluff Acquisition, LLC, owner of Sapelo Hammock, embarked on a capital enhancement plan of re-turfing greens, re-design of several holes and enhanced agronomic and maintenance practices for even greater playability. The clubhouse décor was also updated.

Complementing resort-style experiences at Sapelo Hammock, non-golfers and families enjoy a host of nearby leisure activities including nationally-renowned speckled trout and red fishing, boating, kayaking, bird watching (Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge), access to inter-coastal waterway and Atlantic Ocean beaches in addition to historic landmarks and sightseeing.

When it first opened in 1998, Sapelo Hammock amassed several media awards, including ranking among Golf Digest's "Top 100 New Courses."

Tucked away along the Sapelo River, the 18-hole, 6,887-yard, par-72 course is routed through historic oak-lined fairways with breathtaking marsh views. Designed with five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels, Sapelo Hammock features Champion Bermuda greens, 4-19 Bermuda fairways and roughs, and coastal Georgia marsh grass hazards.

The back nine is highlighted by the par-3 No. 17, Sapelo Hammock's signature hole. This beautiful hole features a natural island hammock surrounded by marsh and provides a daunting challenge for even the most seasoned golfer.
