Somerby Golf Club Receives 'Top 100' Honor From Golfweek Magazine

(Rochester, Minn.) - Somerby Golf Club recently was honored by Golfweek Magazine as one of the top 100, Golfweek's Best residential courses in the country. The ranking was unveiled in Golfweek's 2012 Ultimate Guide To Golf Course Living and Great Escapes and was based on rating ballots submitted by Golfweek course raters from around the country.

Course-ranking panelists apply a number of criteria when considering each golf course, including but not limited to ease and intimacy of routing, variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s and 5s, basic quality of conditioning, variety of playing textures and their 'walk-in-the-park test', (the degree to which the course ultimately is worth spending a half-day on).

Somerby was ranked #56 in the national ranking with an average rating 6.57. The top course in the ranking was Rock Creek in Deer Lodge, Montana who posted an average ranking of 7.93. Somerby was ahead of other notables such as Desert Highlands in Scottsdale, AZ (#60 - 6.5 average rating), Isleworth in Orlando, FL (#85 - 6.33 average rating) and Kiawah Island - River in Kiawah, SC (#86 - 6.33 average rating), to name a few.

"Being included in a Top 100 ranking in a national publication such as Golfweek Magazine is a great, and humbling honor," stated Kurtis Pitcher, General Manager at Somerby Golf Club. "Hats off to our golf and agronomy team who day in and day out deliver a 'Top 100' experience for our members and guests throughout the golf season," added Pitcher.

Somerby is located in Byron, Minn. near Rochester, only a 10-minute drive from the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. The golf course, co-designed by Tom Lehman and John Fought, represents a modern approach to a traditional links-style design with a par-72, 7,209-yard layout fashioned with an emphasis on strategy and visual appeal.

Consistently honored by Golf Digest Magazine as one of the top ten best courses in the State of Minnesota, Somerby meanders over gently rolling countryside that is dotted with meandering creeks, thick stands of trees and natural wetlands. Somerby Golf Club is a prior host of the PGA Tour's Nationwide Series and has also been recognized for excellence in environmental stewardship by achieving the designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" by Audubon International.

The Club and community at Somerby is consistently honored as one of the top ten best courses in the state of Minnesota by Golf Digest and was also honored by Links Magazine's as a Premier Property for 2009-2010 being recognized as "Best For Families."
