Jeff Kellen Birdies All Nine Holes on Back Nine en Route to a 27 on the Hopkins Tour

(RELEASE) - Jeff Kellen of Rockford, Illinois birdied all nine holes on the back nine of the Summergrove Golf Club in Newnan, Georgia for a course record and tour record 27. Kellen, competing in the Hopkins Tour’s Summergrove Classic, finished with a 65 in the second round and is five shots off the lead entering the final round.

Kellen’s amazing round began with a front nine 38 that left him at one over par and in danger of missing the cut.

“I knew I had to have a good back nine, just to have a chance to make the cut” said Kellen.

It started on hole number ten with a 10 foot birdie. A two-putt birdie on eleven and a shot to within a foot of the cup on twelve really got him going.

“I didn’t really start thinking about it until after 17,” he said. “I was thinking about just making the cut. When I got to the 18th tee, that’s when it hit me that I had a chance to birdie all nine holes.”

Jeff’s approach on the 18th hole settled to within 8 feet of the cup, but he had a downhill, left to right putt that he knocked in dead center for the record. Birding all nine holes has only been accomplished once on the PGA Tour. Mark Calcavecchia birdied all nine holes on the back nine in the 2009 RBC Canadian Open. Ironically, Calcavecchia’s round was identical to Kellen as both players followed front nine 38s with their 27.
