Former LSU Star Ken Looper stays big at the Biggs Cadillac-Buick-GMC Classic in Hertford, NC

Delaware alum Martinson wins weekend shootout at the Biggs Classic. Looper gets 2nd Pro Series win in a row, fourth overall

(Hertford, N.C.) – At this pace, former UNO and LSU star Ken Looper (Mandeville, La.) may break the career NGA Tour Pro Series wins record before the season ends. Coming into this week’s Biggs Cadillac-Buick-GMC Classic at the Sound Golf Links in Hertford, N.C., Looper was as hot as any golfer in the world. Having just won the Cutter Creek Bojangles Classic running away, he proceeded to win the Tuesday Shootout at the Sound Golf Links at Albamarle Plantation and the talk amongst players became can the former Tiger be stopped. As of Sunday afternoon in Hertford, N.C., the answer was still not yet. Looper, out of Mandeville, La., finished at 4 under par over the four-day 72 hole Biggs Cadillac-Buick-GMC Classic, good enough for a two-shot win over North Florida alum J.C. Horne out of Jacksonville, Fla., his second in a row and his fourth career. Delaware alum Justin Martinson and British Columbia’s Thomas Hay finished tied for third at 2 over par. Hay shot a new course record 64 in the opening round of the event to grab the first day lead.

As part of the event week, the Sound Golf Links at Albamarle Plantation hosted a special tournament inside of a tournament with a weekend shootout during the Biggs Cadillac-Buick-GMC Classic for a $15,000 purse at no extra charge to the participants. Delaware’s Justin Martinson won in a playoff over LSU’s Jarrod Barsamian after both shot a two day total over the weekend of one under par. Toni Hakula (Austin, Tex.), Adam Stephenson (Greenville, N.C.), and overall tournament winner Ken Looper (Mandeville, La.) finished tied for third at even par over the two days.

The NGA Tour would like to thank Head Golf Professional Kenny Saunders, Head Course Superintendent Mike Horton, and the entire staff, membership, and volunteers at the Sound Golf Links at Albamarle Plantation for conducting a truly one of a kind event and experience for the NGA Tour staff and players. The tour resumes play July 7th at the Gates Four Golf & Country Club in Fayetteville, N.C. for the MaxMotion Physical Therapy All American Classic. Spectators are welcome and, as always, admission is free to the public.

United Leasing Championship (Evansville, Ind.) Web.com Tour notes: 2014 Savannah Lakes Village Classic Champion David Skinns (Lincoln, England) finished tied for 15th at 3 under par. Skinns shot 2 under par final round to jump 25 places. 2014 NGA Tour Pro Series members Seth Fair (Fishers, Ind.) and Trent Whitekiller (Sallisaw, Ok.) finished T56 at 4 over par. 2002, 2003 NGA Tour member Ryan Armour, who finished runner-up, was the highest finishing NGA Tour alum.

Quicken Loans National (Bethesda, Md.) PGA TOUR notes: 2011 NGA Tour member Shawn Stefani finished tied for 1st but lost on the first hole of sudden death after losing his tee shot. His T1 finish was his best since becoming a member of the PGA TOUR. 2010 NGA Tour member Ben Martin finished tied for 3rd. Martin turned professional and joined the NGA Tour in 2010 after a successful collegiate career at Clemson University. He would go on to qualify for the PGA TOUR through Q School later that year. Past NGA Tour winner Brendon Todd finished tied for 5th while fellow NGA Tour winner Billy Hurley and NGA Tour alum Brendon de Jong finished tied for 8th.
