Cleveland Golf Introduces New Additions to CG Black Line for 2015

(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) – Cleveland Golf announced the introduction of the latest additions to their CG Black line of woods and irons, designed specifically for seniors, women and players with slower swing speeds.  The CG Black line will now include the new CG Black Custom driver, as well as the new CG Black CB irons.  These latest additions to the CG Black line are currently available for pre-order with in-store availability beginning on February 13.

The evolution of the CG Black line started with understanding that the average golfer swings their clubs at least 15 mph slower than professional golfers.  Cleveland Golf developed key technologies targeted toward golfers’ swings and ball-flight inefficiencies and then incorporated them into the CG Black family to optimize performance.  Cleveland Golf engineered the CG Black line to make slower swing speed golfers, seniors and female golfers more efficient, focusing on the many factors which inhibit them from hitting the ball farther and maximizing their potential.  The incorporation of Speed Innovation into the CG Black family of woods has made them lighter, longer and faster than ever before.

CG Black Custom Driver
The CG Black Custom is a lightweight, adjustable driver engineered for amateur golfers who score better.  Optimized for golfers who have a swing speed between 85 mph and 105 mph, the CG Black Custom is one of the lightest drivers on the market.  The CG Black Custom driver offers adjustable lofts ranging from 9° to 12°, and comes standard with a Mitsubishi Bassara E50 graphite shaft.  The CG Black Custom will carry a minimum advertised price (MAP) of $399.99.

CG Black CB Irons
The new CG Black CB irons were designed for better amateur golfers with swing speeds ranging from 85 mph to 105 mph.  The CG Black CB irons were developed for players who prefer to work the ball toward the flag stick, but still want plenty of forgiveness.  The CG Black CB’s long and mid irons also utilize a high strength HT 1770 steel face material for improved COR which leads to increased consistency, forgiveness and distance off the club face.  Designed with a premium black finish, the CG Black CB irons are offered with a Nippon NS Pro 1050 GH steel shaft (MAP $699.99) or a UST Recoil 660/670 graphite shaft (MAP $799.99).

(ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.) GolfStyles New Jersey Magazine has released its Readers Choice Rankings of the “Best Golf Courses” in New Jersey. For the growing legion of devotees to golf around Atlantic City, the news hardly comes as a surprise.

Led by perennial favorites Atlantic City Country Club, Shore Gate, Stockton Seaview Bay Course, Ballamor, Blue Heron Pines, Harbor Pines and Twisted Dune, many of the 17 layouts in the Greater Atlantic City area dominated the GolfStyles New Jersey’s “Public Golf” category.

At Nos. 1 and 2, Atlantic City Country Club and Shore Gate topped the rankings of the 10 “Top Clubs” in New Jersey, while Ballamor was close behind at No. 4 on the list along with Scotland Run (6) and Running Deer (8). Starting Time, U.S. Home of My mini Golf Hits it out of the Park at Orlando

(RELEASE) - Marketing manager Mary Anne Penton says this is the year when the golf pros attending the PGA Show in Orlando, really got serious about getting more kids into golf.

The Starting Time booth was packed from the opening day with golf pros wanting to learn more about the first of its kind German-made product, My mini Golf, to use to help bring the fun factor into putting, especially for kids.

At the booth, however, were golf pros putting against each other in “competition” to show that My mini Golf is not just for kids, but can be used by any age. Many clubs are using it indoors, in the evening at parties, golf events and happy hour activities to bring in more club revenue. My mini Golf is a great indoor/outdoor product, but at the PGA Show it was mostly about getting more kids into golf, a goal that My mini Golf was developed for.

According to Penton, there was a 100% increase in orders this year over past years, mostly due to the need to get more kids, women and even seniors into golf. This is fundamental to growing the golf business and bringing  in more revenue to the courses here and in Canada. The attendees at the show recognize this need and are aggressively working to accomplish that. My mini Golf makes teaching and learning easier, according to Penton, and is now being used worldwide.

Starting Time has just completed a new website, www.startingtimegolf.com. A visit there will help to explain through videos and photographs the magic of My mini Golf, according to Penton.

Knuth's High Heat Driver Receives Recognition at 2015 PGA Merchandise Show

Gary Van Sickle calls it 'the most significant technological innovation' at the show

(BONITA, CA) - The launch of Knuth Golf's High Heat driver at last week's PGA Merchandise Show Demo Day has proven to be one of the biggest stories of the show.

Noted sportswriter Gary Van Sickle of Sports Illustrated and Golf.com called High Heat "the most significant technological innovation in golf equipment from this year's PGA Merchandise Show and, therefore, arguably the most exciting new club in a year that lacked dramatic innovations."

The High Heat 460cc driver was designed by Dean Knuth, who was a Senior Director at the United States Golf Association for over 16 years. He created High Heat with the amateur golfer in mind, utilizing his Optimal CG Game Changer and Fire Zone Face Technologies.

Tee shots hit below the center of the face can be 20 or more yards shorter than those hit above the center of the face. High Heat has a much deeper and lower center of gravity (CG) than any of the major brands, producing more total distance and forgiveness, and a large area below the center of the face where amateurs will not lose any distance because that area is above its low CG.

Van Sickle noted these technological advances in his story. But maybe most telling was his description of Knuth's motivation.

"He's just a golfer who wants to make a great driver, not a publicly-owned company under pressure to make profits. This is a pursuit, a hobby, a quest to make a better club and yes, he'd like not to lose money on it. So keep in mind that the High Heat won't be mass-produced by the thousands and be discounted by next year when a newer model comes out, unlike the big clubmakers. The High Heat will likely have a limited run. Just so you know... I've got my order in."

For the complete article on GOLF.com click HERE.

Dozens of other media and golfers who tried the driver at the Demo Day had similar feelings about High Heat's technology and performance.

Swanson Smith, a mini tour player from San Antonia, TX, said that High Heat "sounds like a cannon and goes like a rocket ship."

Mike Stinton of The Golf Channel and Golfing Magazine said "You are going to have to wrestle it from my hands.  High Heat made me feel like a pro. I just walked up and hit eight tee shots and every one of them went right down the middle."

"High Heat's lower CG is very important," said Knuth. "Amateurs regularly hit in the area above High Heat's CG which is below the major brands' average CG location. Tests have proven that drives are longer when hit above a driver's CG compared to hitting below the CG."

Knuth Golf's Fire Zone Face Technology includes a unique face with a combination of seven different zones of variable thickness, including patented "parabolic" lobes at the top of the toe and heel of the face. This increases spring-like effect across the entire sweet spot zone while still conforming to USGA Rules and increasing the accuracy of High Heat.

High Heat was tested against the major brands by Golf Laboratories, which is the world's leading independent, robotic testing facility, and used by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and several major brands. Golf Laboratories test results show that High Heat was longer, straighter, and had more forgiveness than the major brands. Golfers who have tried High Heat's prototypes have raved about its performance on center and off-center hits, and its look, feel and distinctive sound of power.

Extensive Athletic Tests Find Stable 26 Socks Significantly Improve Lateral Stability for Athletes

(RELEASE) – Performance Sock Technology companyStable 26 is changing the landscape of golf performance – one foot at a time. Alongside leading expert in biomedical analysis Jay Dicharry, the “better fit for better performance” brand conducted a variety of data-centric, unbiased athletic tests to illustrate the importance of proper stability through the foot. Conducted on 24 elite athletes at a controlled Biomechanics Lab in Bend, Oregon, the results found Stable 26 socks significantly improve stability in the foot (6-10% in women; 9-15% in men), thus optimizing performance. Past research has shown that an athlete’s increased stability reduces the risk of injury.

Having worked with countless elite athletes – including Professional Golfer Ernie Els, Ottawa Senators Captain Erik Karlsson, and American Track and Field star Alexis Love – Stable 26 understands how injuries come about, and the importance of wearing quality footgear to reduce potential foot trauma. For golfers, poor stance stability taxes the body with each step through deceleration and acceleration forces acting from front to back, greatly increasing the risk of developing a debilitating injury. As such, ensuring proper stability through the foot helps golfers to prevent the risk of developing serious injuries.

To test the effects of Stable 26, Physical Therapist, Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist, researcher, teacher, and coach Jay Dicharry welcomed 24 athletes (12 male, 12 female) to his REP Biomechanics Lab in Bend, Oregon, where the ‘Anatomy for Runners’ author put them through a series of treadmill tests with over 20 different parameters related to gait. Dicharry collected baseline data by instructing athletes to first wear regular running shoes and socks while running at a relatively high intensity on a controlled treadmill. To measure stability, he then replaced each athlete’s socks with Stable 26 technology and conducted the same treadmill tests. Overwhelming, the unbiased quantitative results found no negative impact from wearing Stable 26 socks, and significant improvement in athletes’ lateral stability (6-10% in woman; 9-15% in men).

“For golfers, stability is a key factor in ensuring a consistent, steady swing. If unstable, the constant swing motion can be extremely taxing on the body – both mentally and physically,” said Dicharry. “Through unbiased analysis, we found Stable 26 socks improve lateral stability, which greatly decreases the risk of injury for golfers. As an active coach, I would recommend Stable 26 socks to all golfers – elite or otherwise. The results speak for themselves.”

Salmon Golf is Changing the Way Golfers Train with Putters

(MEDFORD, Oregon) - Train with one putter head featuring spectacular electronic feedback, then use a torque wrench to insert an identical-looking head - same shape, weight, center of gravity, feel - without the electronics.

This interchangeability is the calling card of Salmon Golf, a new golf equipment company located here in southern Oregon.

By monitoring an array of lights located directly on a Salmon Golf putter head, a golfer can receive precise information on alignment, direction of the stroke, tempo and stroke length. There are two different electronic training heads - the Alignment Training Head (for indoor use) and the Stroke Training Head (for indoor or outdoor use).

The information provided by each training head comes from motion sensing and infrared detecting technology located within the putter head. Of course, this makes the putter nonconforming for use on the golf course.

Replace that head with the non-electronic version and the putter becomes conforming. So says the U.S. Golf Association.

The two putter heads look identical, but one is the electronic version and the other is the non-electronic version.

Salmon Golf, a new golf equipment company featuring the Stroke Sensor Putting System with electronic feedback, made its official debut at the 2015 PGA Merchandise Show.

The founders of the company are the husband and wife team of DeAnne and D'Miles Salmon, who share the title of chief executive. Imagine that: Husband and wife co-CEOs who always seem to support each other.

DeAnne is an expert product designer, while D'Miles is a mechanical engineer who conceived and developed products for IBM, Atari, Apple and other companies.

D'Miles also received two utility patents relating to the Salmon Golf Stroke Sensor Putting System.

The Salmon Golf president is Billy Crenshaw, an accomplished golf industry veteran who was National Sales Manager of Head Golf before joining Callaway Golf when founder Ely Callaway was building what was arguably the most formidable sales force in the golf industry.

Crenshaw worked 13 years as a Callaway sales representative and remained a valuable sounding board for product acquisition and development.

DeAnne, D'Miles and Billy have pledged to create and manufacture the most advanced putters in golf.

"I love everything about the game of golf and the golf business," Billy said, "from the research and development of innovative products, to sales and marketing, to all the golf people I meet. It's the people who make it rewarding, and that's something we always try to remember at Salmon Golf -- the purpose of what we do is to make the game more enjoyable for golfers and golf people."

Mizzen+Main, Men’s Performance Lifestyle Company, Enters Golf Arena with Big League Design Champions

Upstart menswear and lifestyle brand delivers professional performance apparel with no sweat

(DALLAS) – Mizzen+Main, an American shirt maker and haberdasher, today announced a significant milestone in the company’s two-year history with the opening of their line to golf-centric menswear outlets. After the recent closing of $1.2 million in Series A funding round led by former Astor & Black founder and serial entrepreneur David Schottenstein, the company aligned themselves with the former fashion director at Neiman Marcus, Matthew Singer.

Michael Shank , head golf pro from North Shore Country Club says, "Mizzen and Main was a terrific addition to our Golf Shop in 2014. Their performance dress shirts and henleys were extremely popular with our membership. The products are outstanding and filled a niche I did not previously offer in the shop."

Launched in 2012, Mizzen+Main offers moisture-wicking, wrinkle-free dress shirts designed to blend class and comfort for the active professional. The company also manufactures and retails performance henleys, blazers, and denim. Mizzen+Main sources and manufactures all products in the United States and is headquartered in Dallas.

“Mizzen+Main exists to bring innovation to classic menswear, as we’re creating an entirely new category within the apparel industry,” said Kevin Lavelle, co-founder and CEO of Mizzen+Main. “We’re thrilled with the increased demand we are seeing as a young company and are excited to grow our product offering and continue to deliver the quality apparel and service Mizzen+Main customers have come to know and expect.”

Inspired by modern athletic gear, Mizzen+Main’s dress shirts use a unique fabric blend to wick away moisture, eliminating sweat from showing through the shirt. Shirts feature four-way stretch for a custom fit and do not require dry cleaning. Wrinkle-free technology means only machine washing and hang drying – with no ironing – keep shirts wrinkle-free all day. The same wrinkle-free philosophy was applied to the 0-5 Performance Blazer, a Kickstarter-funded initiative designed for entrepreneurs, athletes, game changers, and men constantly on-the-go.

Mizzen+Main donates a portion of all shirt sales to support veterans and their families through the company’s “A Shirt for A Start” program that provides transition support to veterans bridging the gap between service and the private sector. The company has also partnered on multiple initiatives with the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Nikon Introduces Trio of New COOLSHOT Golf Rangefinders

(RELEASE) - Nikon announced the release of three new COOLSHOT golf laser rangefinders during PGA Show 2015— COOLSHOT 20, COOLSHOT 40 and COOLSHOT 40i— each an ideal companion for golfers eager to improve their skills and reduce their scores.

COOLSHOT 20
The COOLSHOT 20 is the smallest and lightest rangefinder in the Nikon golf lineup and is designed for measuring actual distance to various objects on the course. This 4.4-ounce, easy-to-use, USGA-approved tool not only provides accurate measurements for every shot—but can also help golfers learn to better manage their game. Measurement range: 6-550 yards.  Suggested retail price for COOLSHOT 20 is $199.95.

COOLSHOT 40
Nikon’s COOLSHOT 40 is the most powerful USGA-approved rangefinder in the Nikon golf “toolbox.” Featuring Nikon’s original data-processing algorithm HYPER READ, the measured distance is displayed in approx. 0.5 seconds regardless of how far from the target. Measurement range: 8-650 yards.  Suggested retail price for the 5.6 ounce COOLSHOT 40 is $249.95.

COOLSHOT 40i
The COOLSHOT 40i is the flagship rangefinder in the line with all of the features found in COOLSHOT 40, but also incorporating ID Technology which displays the slope-adjusted distance (Horizontal distance ± height) — ideal for use on golf courses with uphill and downhill slopes. Measurement range: 8-650 yards. Suggested retail price for COOLSHOT 40i is $299.95.

Each of the new COOLSHOT golf rangefinders offers a multilayer-coated 6x high-quality finder for bright, clear viewing. All models also features one-push, 8-second continuous measurement and First Target Priority Mode, which enables easy distance assessment to bunkers, fairway ends, dogleg corners and other objects on the course.  This feature is particularly useful during approach shots when measuring the distance to a flagstick on a green with woods in the background.  All three COOLSHOT models are water resistant/rainproof to keep golfers on the course in inclement conditions.

GOLF 20/20 Reports Game’s Direct Economic Impact in Florida Increased to $8.2 Billion in 2013

Findings Will Be Shared at State Capitol on Feb. 5 during ‘Florida Golf Day’

(ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.) – GOLF 20/20 – the collaboration of leading organizations representing all segments of the United States golf industry – reports golf’s direct economic impact in Florida was $8.2 billion in 2013, an increase from $7.5 billion in 2007.

The size of Florida’s direct golf economy is larger than key state industries like amusement and theme parks ($5.4 billion) and medical equipment and supplies manufacturing ($6.5 billion). When indirect and induced economic activity driven by the golf sector is taken into consideration, total impact increases to $11 billion.

The state’s golf industry supports 132,532 jobs and $3.6 billion in wage income. Florida is home to 1,103 golf courses, the most of any U.S. state.

“Golf brings thousands of visitors to Florida each year, spurs new residential construction and creates demand for myriad goods and services,” says Steve Mona, CEO of the World Golf Foundation, administrator of GOLF 20/20. “The health and growth of the game in Florida has a direct bearing on jobs, commerce, economic development and tax revenues for communities and industries throughout the state.”

Top representatives of Florida’s golf industry will travel to Tallahassee for “Florida Golf Day” on Thursday, Feb. 5 and share these findings about the game’s economic impact, as well as its youth development programs, sustainability practices and environmental benefits.

Participating organizations include the PGA of America, PGA TOUR, LPGA, USGA, Club Managers Association of America, National Golf Course Owners Association, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, World Golf Hall of Fame, World Golf Foundation, The First Tee, Florida Golf Course Superintendents Association, Florida Turfgrass Association, Florida Chapter of Club Managers Association of America, North and South Florida Sections of the PGA of America, Florida State University PGA Golf Management Program, Florida State Golf Association and Golf Channel.

The Florida Golf Economic Impact Study by SRI International is based on several core segments (golf facility operations, golf course capital investment, golfer supplies, tournaments and associations, and charities) and enabled categories (real estate, hospitality and tourism).

Is the GolfBottle the Best Bottle Ever?

Unique Multi-Functional bottle for hot or cold beverages

(RELEASE) - Developed by entrepreneur Tom F. Blanchester, the GolfBottle is a multi-functional, double-insulated stainless steel bottle that can be used for hot or cold beverages. It has a Spout, a Straw, Sprayer and hooks for easy carrying.

In addition, the GolfBottle features a wide-mouth opening for ice cubes, easy refill and cleaning, and it’s BPA free. It can be used as a sports bottle, a work bottle or travel item, all the drinking options can be accessed with one hand. There’s no need to squeeze or tilt the bottle and the bottle doesn’t sweat. Cap has off center spout for better flow so user swallow less air. Water spray easy cleans ball and club blade.

“I decided to make GolfBottle because I never could find a reusable bottle that I liked,” said Tom F. Blanchester. “I had my eureka moment in Paris when I saw aluminum bottles that misted water, but did nothing else. I loved the refreshing mist spray, but the bottles were expensive and not eco-friendly.”

So he assembled a team – best designer, engineer, scientist and manufacturer – to come up with something better. After four years, the Best Bottle Ever became a reality.

“We use high-quality steel 18/8 with double walls so you can keep beverage hot or cold 10 times longer ”, Blanchester said. “The bottle is environmentally friendly, very durable and offers many practical uses. The retail price will not be much higher than other bottles that offer less quality and fewer features.”

The research, design and engineering of the bottles have been completed. The bottle can be seen: booth 2091 Inventor’s spotlight PGA GolfShow, Orlando Jan 21-23, 2015.

“We’re trying to reach as many potential customers as possible,” Blanchester said. “Not only is this a great product but we can cut down on plastic bottle use. We all know plastic bottles are expensive and terrible for the environment.”

Tripp Davis’ Renovation at Oak Tree National Returns Course to Golf Digest 'Best of' List

(Norman, OK) — Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma, site of the 2014 U.S. Senior Open, has returned to Golf Digest’s prestigious ranking of America’s 100 Greatest Courses after a 15-year absence.  Tripp Davis and Associates were responsible for recent renovation work on a course that long has been considered one of Pete Dye’s sternest tests of golf.  Oak Tree National is listed at No. 51 on Golf Digest’s biennial review that’s published in the magazine’s February 2015 issue.

“We are proud to have been instrumental in helping Oak Tree National climb back onto Golf Digest’s important list of America’s 100 Greatest Courses,” said Davis.  “The golf course went through a variety of design changes over the years since Pete first designed it.  We were brought in to work with the ownership, Oak Tree’s touring professionals and the staff to help regain the best of the course’s original Pete Dye character, and we were gratified that the pros who played in last year’s U.S. Senior Open had so many positive comments about our work.”

Davis and his team worked to return the features of the course to their original form while adding a few enhancements for the modern game.  All tees and bunkers were rebuilt and strategically restored, while the greens surrounds and portions of certain greens were reworked to be more consistent with the original greens.  “The greens and greens surrounds were what made Oak Tree so strategic and we like what we recaptured,” commented Davis.
“It can still be the toughest course in the country, but it is very strategic and option oriented.”

The Sea Pines Resort Announces Harbour Town Golf Links Enhancements

(HILTON HEAD, S.C.) – The Sea Pines Resort – Hilton Head's most celebrated golf destination – announces enhancements to its acclaimed Harbour Town Golf Links will begin in May.

The Pete Dye-designed masterpiece will close for the summer on May 4 following this year’s RBC Heritage (April 14 – 20). The tee-boxes, fairways and rough will be replaced with Celebration Bermuda grass, the most technologically-advanced surface used on warm season courses. Dye recently oversaw the resort’s Heron Point layout re-grassing with Celebration Bermuda.

Harbour Town’s greens will be re-grassed with Tif-Eagle Bermuda, the same grass that has been on the putting surfaces since 2001.  Additionally, a new state-of-the-art irrigation system will be installed with the latest science in water management and control.

MacCurrach Golf Construction – which worked with Dye during the 2001 restoration of Harbour Town – will lead the course work. The firm also handled last year’s reconstruction work on Heron Point. Harbour Town will reopen in September.

The modifications follow the upcoming spring grand opening of the new 26,000-square-foot Harbour Town Golf Links Clubhouse on the site of the existing structure. The facility will honor the PGA TOUR’s RBC Heritage with a gallery showcasing the rich tournament history and display of past champions.

Harbour Town is currently ranked No. 9 in the U.S. in GOLF Magazine’s “Top 100 Courses You Can Play.” The Sea Pines Resort was also recently honored by GOLF with a “Gold Medal” in the magazine 2014-15 edition of “Premier Resorts.”

“Our investment in improving Harbour Town insures it will remain as one of the world’s premier layouts,” says Cary Corbitt, Vice President of Sports & Operations. “The year-round playability of the course is going to be greatly enhanced and enjoyed by PGA TOUR players, our members, property owners and resort guests.”

Last year, the legendary Lowcountry destination opened its new Plantation Golf Club serving Heron Point and Ocean Course as well as the resort’s Golf Learning Center. The amenities of the 23,000-square-foot clubhouse include an expansive pro shop; Live Oak, Lowcountry-inspired cuisine; 2,000 square feet of event space; and spacious men’s and women’s locker rooms.

Nike Golf Takes Tiger Woods' Signature TW '15 to New Level with Flyweave Innovation

Flyweave provides lightweight support and flexibility where golf athletes need it most

(RELEASE) - Nike Golf and Tiger Woods are relentlessly focused on pushing the sport of golf forward. Together they are powering modern golf by driving product innovation beyond expectations.

Symbolic of the modern spirit is the new TW '15 shoe, Woods’ latest signature golf shoe and the first to feature Nike’s breakthrough Flyweave technology in the upper.

The TW '15 is the latest collaboration between Woods and Tobie Hatfield, Nike Senior Director of Athlete Innovation. Woods debuted their first project as a prototype at the WGC Bridgestone in 2011. Since then, each iteration of the TW-series has featured a Nike Free-inspired outsole while consistently raising the bar for what athletes should expect from a golf shoe.

Woods and Hatfield have raised the bar again with the TW '15 by integrating Dynamic Flywire into a Flyweave upper with a Nike Free outsole. The result is a golf shoe that provides the ultimate level of stability, fit and flexibility.

“Nike keeps answering the bell every time I want to push the envelope,” said Woods. “The new Flyweave technology provides even more stability and support for my foot, and when you pair that with the Free-inspired outsole, I noticed I can push off the ground better and finish my swing with power.”

Flyweave enables the creation of a one-piece upper that is woven to provide great strength-to-weight support where it is needed most based upon the demands, or movements, of the sport. While strong and supportive, Flyweave is also incredibly lightweight and flexible.

Nike debuted Flyweave in a basketball shoe in 2014. Even though the dynamic movements of a basketball player’s feet are different from those of a golfer, both require stability and a natural range of motion.

“Tiger epitomizes power,” said Hatfield. “His power starts with natural motion which begins with unleashing the foot from the ground up. Flyweave gives you that flexibility coupled with support.”
Due to the lightweight Flyweave technology and the golf-specific Nike Free-inspired outsole, designers were able to make the TW '15 ten percent lighter than the previous model.

THERE’S ALWAYS BETTER

The Nike Free-inspired outsole gets a few updates to offer athletes a golf-specific natural range of motion. Woods provided detailed feedback to help designers create an outsole that is 3mm lower than the TW '14 to maximize ground feel and longer contact with the ground.

An updated process for creating the outsole optimizes the flexibility of the shoe, another request from Woods. Combined with four replacement spikes, Hatfield utilized Integrated Traction in the toe area of the shoe to offer more flexibility to help Woods harness the full power of his swing without sacrificing traction.

ATHLETE INSIGHTS

More of Hatfield’s aesthetic design inspiration was based on Woods' personal love of diving and spearfishing. His first sketch of the shoe featured star-shaped traction, similar to a starfish.

“That reminded me of Tiger’s love to spearfish and be underwater,” Hatfield said. “Adding the sea elements allowed another part of Tiger to live in the design of the shoe.”

The traction elements in the toe are shaped like octopus beaks, while the rubber in the tip and the heel are inspired by shark scales.

NIKE TW '15 AVAILABILITY:
A limited number of the Nike TW '15 shoes will be available on nike.com beginning Feb. 2.

The Nike TW '15 is available in three colorways on March 5 with pre-orders beginning Feb. 12.

Colorways include: University Red/Black, Metallic Silver/Black and Black/White

Lizzie Driver Signs LPGA Tour Star Jaye Marie Green as Brand Ambassador

(San Marino, CA) – Lizzie Driver – the women’s golf-lifestyle fashion brand offering sophisticated clothing for the country club fairway and everyday – announces the signing of Jaye Marie Green as an Ambassador on the LPGA Tour.

Green – who joins 2014 Women’s British Open champion Melissa “Mo” Martin on the Lizzie Driver roster – will compete in a range of the company’s distinctive looks throughout the upcoming season. Known for her engaging personality, devotion to fitness and all-around game, the 20-year-old Floridian is considered one of the game’s brightest young stars. She turned professional in 2013 following a heralded amateur career and finished last season as one of the top rookies on the LPGA Tour.

“Week after week, I’m traveling around the world, meeting so many amazing people and competing against the world’s best players,” says Green. “I reached out to Lizzie Driver because its clothes help me feel great and are the absolute best match with my on-the-go lifestyle.”

Founded in 2011 by Forgatch and Karen Preston, Lizzie Driver was conceived to counter the notion that golf clothes don’t have to be beautiful. From the outset, the women worked with a master tailor to ensure each of their pieces is cut to flatter a women’s body. This distinctive draping – and the graceful movement it promotes – has become a signature of the company’s designs.

“Beyond her obvious talent, what’s so appealing about Jaye Marie is her fun-loving approach to life and connection with her family,” says Lorrie Forgatch, Co-Founder of Lizzie Driver. “In combination with a major champion like Mo, she’s the perfect player to showcase our premium garments to a global audience.”

An immediate hit with discerning buyers following its premiere in 2012, Lizzie Driver boasts finely crafted tops, bottoms, dresses, sweaters and jackets, most of which are made in downtown Los Angeles. Included each season are several pieces which showcase floral and graphic prints from the famed Liberty of London collection.

In an era of disposable fast-fashion and consistent price compression, Lizzie Driver has staked out a premium position by offering the very best fabrics, fit, style and detailing. The brand is renowned for the manner in which its garments flatter a woman’s body. Distinctive draping and graceful movement has become a signature of the Lizzie Driver aesthetic. This directly contributes to the company’s mission of countering the notion that golf clothes don’t have to be beautiful.

Distributed through nearly 250 better shops in more than 30 states, Lizzie Driver is also offered in several international markets.

Edel Golf Launches Torque-Balanced Black Putter Series at 2015 PGA Merchandise Show

New black finish reduces glare, offers sleeker looking sightlines and improves durability

(AUSTIN, Texas) – With torque being the ultimate enemy of consistent putting, award-winning putter maker and club fitting technology guru David Edel, along with the expert craftsmen at Edel Golf, introduced the all-new Torque-Balanced Black putter series during the 2015 PGA Merchandise Show.

Torque-Balanced Black putters, like the previously introduced satin models, feature “torque balanced” technology that reduces the negative effects of torque – results in a smoother and more consistent motion and allowing the putter head a greater opportunity to return to square at impact.

Torque-balanced technology strategically removes weight from the toe of the putter, creating a “toe-up” balance point versus traditional toe-down or face-balanced putters. With an optimally weighted design, the Torque Balanced putter is less susceptible to the forces of torque during the putting stroke. The Torque Balanced technology is contained completely within the sole of the club, allowing the putter to maintain a sleek and traditional look at address.

Torque-Balanced Black putters feature a patented Pixl insert. Comprised of 93 individual circular components, the Pixl insert improves feel and drastically improves distance control, even when putts are struck off-center. Torque-Balanced Black Series putters are available in three head shapes (E-1 Mallet, E-2 Modified Blade, and E-3 Blade) and carry a MSRP of $295.

TORQUE BALANCED FITTING SYSTEM
Edel Golf offers golf consumers the ability to optimize the performance of their Torque-Balanced Black putter through a qualified retail fitter. Why the Torque-Balanced putter design? Traditional putter design theory views face balanced putters as the optimal way to create stability in the putting stroke. When balanced in your hand, a face-balanced putter will sit perfectly parallel to the ground. Useful? Only if you plan to putt toward the sky. When tilted downward (in the address position), the previously balanced face will now tilt towards the side. Coupled with the motion of the putting stroke (whether linear or radial), the head weight of a face-balanced putter will torque around its axis.

Torque in the putting stroke is defined as forced rotation of the putter face resulting from misallocated head weight. The presence of torque makes it difficult to effectively transition from the backstroke to the forward stroke and causes the putter face to rotate open. This forces the player to compensate for the effects of torque, which creates inconsistency and increased dispersion of putts. Greater levels of torque will be created based on the length of the putting stroke, making longer putts even more susceptible to its negative effects.
