Tom Fazio Part of Group to Purchase Forest Creek Golf Club

Fazio’s North and South Courses at highly regarded Pinehurst real estate community have both been ranked among the country’s Top 100

(PINEHURST, N.C.) — World-renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio has joined Colony 9, LLC as an investor to purchase Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst. The transaction was completed on December 28, 2017 for an undisclosed price.

One of only two residential golf course communities in the United States to feature two Golfweek “Top 100” golf courses, Forest Creek Golf Club’s North and South Courses are distinctly different, but both are championship caliber gems.

Fazio’s ownership stake in Colony 9 is the first time in his long and illustrious career that he has invested in one of his own designs. No living designer has more credits on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses and Golfweek’s collection of America’s Best.

“Forest Creek is one of the truly elite golfing experiences in this country,” said Fazio. “I was given carte blanche to adapt the two courses to the majestic, rolling North Carolina Sandhills topography and the result was that the layout of each challenging but playable course does not resemble the other.”

Fazio joined two other long-time Forest Creek Members in forming Colony 9, which has initially committed at least $2 million in golf course enhancements in the next two years. “I have always considered Forest Creek at the top of my accomplishments as a golf course architect and look forward to spending more time there while personally overseeing the renovation programs of both the North and South Courses,” said Fazio.

In addition to the two golf courses and related facilities, Colony 9 acquired 112 undeveloped lots in the 1,265-acre master-planned community, which is platted for 750 residential lots. All current members in good standing at the private club were invited to join the new club without any additional fees, and the ownership group has committed to never assess the membership nor increase dues for at least two years.

“This exciting new chapter in our story will allow one of the country’s premier private Clubs to further elevate our overall daily service experience,” said John Buser, Forest Creek’s General Manager and Chief Operating Officer.

NextLinks, the Latest Indoor Golf Technology, Attends 2018 PGA Merchandise Show

Visit NextLinks at booth #879 to learn about this new multi-dimensional indoor golf alternative

(Santa Ana, CA) - NextLinks, the developer of the latest innovative indoor golf technology experience for consumers, will be showcasing its pioneering golf gaming platform at the 2018 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, FL, January 24-26.

During the show, PGA professionals, facility operators, media, and attendees will learn how the technology driving NextLinks revolutionizes the indoor golf experience for serious and casual golfers alike. With NextLinks, entertainment venues can attract new players to the game while giving avid golfers an unprecedented, true-to-golf gaming experience.

Fully aware of golf’s long-bemoaned barriers to entry and growth – time, cost, difficulty and intimidation – David Shultz, a veteran technologist and former General Electric engineer, developed NextLinks as a multi-dimensional indoor golf alternative that can be implemented at a wide variety of entertainment venues.

The NextLinks golf experience is powered by proprietary software that seamlessly blends golf simulator play with realistic short game shots and putting on expertly-designed putting greens.

Using patent-pending Pinpoint Spotlight Technology each player’s position in the simulator game is tracked. It allows them to play and putt out from a spot designated by a colored laser mark being displayed on or near the green. The dynamic “Spotlight” system not only allows seasoned golfers a more realistic, immersive golfing experience, it can also guide beginners and non-golfers through a plethora of more fun-based games and lessons.

“Picture popular target-practice games like corn hole, darts or horseshoes. We have golf versions of those that introduce patrons to golf in an unintimidating, entertaining way,” Shultz said. “The system also has golf instruction applications and competitive games that make the surrounding venue very versatile. The spotlight system controls the traffic on the green, so the same space can function as the ultimate golf training facility or the hottest nightclub in town.”

NextLinks is a scalable concept, meaning venue owners with 850 square-feet of space up to 100,000 can license this unique golf entertainment platform. Through a joint venture with Ultra Star Multi-Tainment Center and its business team, NextLinks is now strategically positioned to expand and be sustainable on a global scale.

The first NextLinks facility has opened in Santa Ana, Calif., along with a major project underway at the Indian Wells Resort in Palm Springs, Calif., utilizing the revolutionary high-tech putting experience with real green complexes.  More facility openings, including at golf courses, resorts, casinos and other entertainment venues will be announced in the coming months.

To learn more about NextLinks and meet David Shultz, the founder and developer of this new technology, visit booth #879, or to set up an appointment, email

Team Secret Golf’s Patton Kizzire Wins Sony Open In Hawaii

Rising Star’s Player Channel to Debut on Next Month
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) – Winning is becoming a habit for Patton Kizzire. Two months after claiming his initial PGA Tour title at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in Mexico, the lanky Alabama native added a second career victory last Sunday, outlasting James Hahn on the sixth hole of a sudden-death playoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Patton Kizzire
A former Tour Player of  the Year, Kizzire’s recent win came in just his third start after his victory in Mexico last fall and now gives members of the Team Secret Golf staff three titles early in the 2017-18 PGA Tour season. Kizzire’s victory in Hawaii also made him the first player to claim multiple events this year. Fellow Secret Golf staff member Pat Perez won the CIMB Classic in Malaysia shortly after the Tour’s wrap-around season got underway last October.

Kizzire’s win in Honolulu virtually assured him of a spot in The Tour Championship, the season-ending finale for the top-30 on the FedEx Cup points list, and also jumped him into the top 60 in the Official World Golf Rankings. “The first win was big, and this one is even bigger,” Kizzire said following his recent victory. “Our ultimate goal is to be No. 1 at the end of the year. We have a long way to go but a fast start is always positive.”

Golf fans will soon want to look for Kizzire’s private Player Channel, set to debut in February on features some of the game’s best personalities, each giving their unique perspective on golf in their own style.

“We are watching a young man develop in front of our eyes. He’s been a winner at every level and sees himself as such,” said Steve Elkington, the co-founder of Secret Golf. “I think everyone is looking forward to Patton’s Player Channel and now that he’s won twice this year, that should elevate the interest level. He’s kind of an old-school guy, a masterful putter and chipper who understands his strengths and weaknesses but also enjoys the challenges of being a Tour professional.”

Fellow Secret Golf staff member Brian Harman also played well at the Sony Open in Hawaii, finishing T4 at Waialae Country Club. Harman’s own Player Channel will also be ready on in February and golfers of all ages can look forward to learning the finer points of the game from one of golf’s best young left-handed professionals.

In addition to Kizzire and Harman, the lineup of notable players on the Secret Golf staff includes former major champions Jackie Burke, Elkington, Jason Dufner, Brittany Lang and Stacy Lewis, and now has claimed 115 tournaments collectively on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Tour.

AirHelp Launches Tool to Allow Passengers to Map Their Trips Visually

The New Compensation Checking Tool Identifies Missed Claims From Flight Disruptions As Far as Three Years Back

(New York) – AirHelp, the leading flight compensation company and air passenger rights advocate in the world, today launched the world's first tool for travelers to check their eligibility for compensation from flight disruptions up to three years in the past. The feature also allows travelers to visually map out their journeys directly from their mobile devices into an adventure map for social sharing. This first-of-its-kind technology will enlighten consumers to compensation they may have never known was available to them.

Available on the AirHelp website and mobile app, the tool is an exciting new dual feature that provides a simple way for air passengers to check their personal flight history for compensation eligibility. Once connected, AirHelp will have the capability to update consumers on future eligibility as soon as their flight disruptions occur.

In addition to quick compensation and notification, the new tool will include a data visualization feature that travelers can use to develop and share a personalized map of their trips across Facebook and Twitter. By analyzing past flight data and including any new flights as they are booked, the tool creates a colorful and engaging map of recent flights, how much money you have spent on flight tickets, how many times you've been to the moon and back, and much more to highlight past experiences in a fun and visual display.

"Raising awareness of air passenger rights and identifying new ways to be a consumer advocate has always been our priority," says AirHelp CEO and co-founder Henrik Zillmer. "Over nine million air passengers are entitled to compensation for disrupted flights every year, yet most of these travelers don't know that they are eligible or understand how to pursue a valid claim. Our new tool will produce compelling content for today's social media-driven consumers, while building a platform for automatic notifications about compensation eligibility. We're excited to educate even more travelers about their rights in a fun, interactive manner with technology."

This new tool continues AirHelp's mission to offer passengers the most advanced and consumer-friendly travel solutions worldwide by combining the knowledge of hundreds of legal specialists in air travel with world-class artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities. This latest tool joins a growing list of travel-tech innovation in 2017 for the company following the launch of AirHelp's Boarding Pass Scanner and the debut of Lara, the company's newest artificial intelligence (AI) powered lawyer focused on increasing the efficiency of determining court success viability. AirHelp is compatible with iOS and Android operating systems and currently works with Gmail, Hotmail and Microsoft Outlook servers.

Payne, Lewis and Els honored by Golf Writers Association of America

(HOUSTON) – Billy Payne, who retired last fall as chairman of Augusta National Golf Club after 11-plus years of progressive and dynamic leadership, has been voted winner of the Golf Writers Association of America William D. Richardson Award for outstanding contributions to golf.

Payne will be joined by LPGA star Stacy Lewis and Hall of Famer Ernie Els as award winners at the 46th ISPS HANDA GWAA Annual Awards Dinner presented by The PGA of America and USGA Wednesday April 4 in Augusta, Ga.

Lewis will receive the organization’s Ben Hogan Award given to an individual who has overcome a physical handicap or serious illness. Els will receive the ASAP Sports/Jim Murray Award for his long-time cooperation with the media.

During his time as chairman of Augusta National, Payne was a leader in expanding the game around the world while continuing to enhance Augusta National and the Masters tournament. He joins Clifford Roberts as the only former chairman to win the Richardson Award. Augusta National Founder Bob Jones was also honored with the Richardson in 1958.

Under Payne’s leadership, the Asia-Pacific Amateur and the Latin American Amateur were created and became significant global events. Payne also was instrumental in the creation and success of the annual Drive, Chip and Putt Championship which culminates on the Sunday before the Masters at Augusta National.

Payne also led the club and the tournament into new digital ventures while continuing the mission of Augusta National’s founders, expanding the club’s facilities and improving the patron experience at the Masters.

“I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to the entire Golf Writers Association of America for this amazing honor. So many of this award’s recipients were an inspiration to me, especially Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts,” Payne said.

“Like these two great men, I believe golf teaches so many important and rewarding life lessons. Their commitment to the game motivated me every day I was privileged to serve as Chairman of Augusta National. Whatever successes occurred during my tenure were a direct result of the pursuit of excellence they alone established.”

Lewis overcame long odds to become the No. 1 ranked women’s player in the world and a two-time LPGA player of the year.

When Lewis was 11, she was diagnosed with scoliosis and she wore a back brace for seven years. She wore the brace for 18 hours a day, taking it off only when she played golf.

Lewis eventually had back surgery to have a rod and five screws implanted. She gradually returned to competitive golf and went on to win the 2007 NCAA individual championship and 12 LPGA tournaments, including two major championships. Lewis lives in the Houston area and when she won the 2017 Cambia Portland Classic a week after Hurricane Harvey hit, she donated her winner’s check to hurricane relief efforts.

“It’s a real honor to win an award with Ben Hogan’s name on it. I always felt like what I went through was for a reason, that there was always a purpose. While I wouldn’t wish what I went through on any other kid, I wouldn’t change what happened to me,” Lewis said.

Els was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011 for a sparkling worldwide career. A four-time major champion, Els has won 19 PGA Tour events and 71 tournaments worldwide. He was also honored by the GWAA in 2010 with the Charlie Bartlett Award for his commitment to Autism through his foundation and The Els Center of Excellence.

A former No. 1, Els has been named European Tour player of the year three times and has developed an open and long-standing relationship with the media.

“Thank you to everyone at the Golf Writers Association of America and ASAP Sports for this honour. What a nice gift to start the New Year,” Els said.

“Jim Murray was a brilliant, funny writer and obviously a legend in his field, so it’s nice that this award is named after him and, from my point of view, it makes the award more special.

“I’ve always enjoyed a good relationship with the golf media. In fact, many of the writers, pundits and commentators that travel the world with us have become good friends of mine. They have a pretty tough job and I have a lot of respect for what they do. That’s why I’ve always tried to be honest and ‘give it straight’ in press conferences, which I think they’ve appreciated over the years.”

In addition to Roberts and Jones, past recipients of the Richardson Award, named for The New York Times’ William D. Richardson who was instrumental in the founding of the GWAA in 1946, include Tim Finchem, Dottie Pepper, Judy Rankin, Doc Giffin, David Fay, Jack Burke, Jr., the Harmon Family, Furman Bisher, Maj. Dan Rooney, Pete Dye, Louise Suggs, Nancy Lopez, Sandy Tatum, Dan Jenkins, Judy Bell, Babe Zaharias, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, President Dwight Eisenhower, Patty Berg, Gene Sarazen, Arnold Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, Harvey Penick, Peggy Kirk Bell, Frank Hannigan and Lee Trevino.

Former Hogan award winners include Rankin, Gene Sauers, J.B. Holmes, Tom Watson, Sophie Gustafson, Barbara Douglas, Jarrod Lyle, Ken Green, Erik Compton, Denis Watson, Hubert Green, Bruce Edwards, Scott Verplank, Jose-Maria Olazabal, Casey Martin, Paul Azinger, David Meador, Trevino and Ken Venturi.

Previous ASAP Sports/Jim Murray winners include Palmer, Nicklaus, Lopez, Ben Crenshaw, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Brad Faxon, Steve Stricker, Padraig Harrington, Juli Inkster, Jim Furyk, Nick Price, Jay Haas and Laura Davies.

Bridgestone Golf Experiences Record Growth in 2017

(COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf – innovator of premium golf balls, clubs and accessories – posted the most successful year in company history in 2017, setting records in total sales, advertising reach and number of golf ball units shipped in a calendar year.

The company experienced a significant increase in sales at some of the nation’s largest off-course retailers. This substantial growth is largely attributed to Bridgestone’s continued commitment to innovation across the entirety of its product line, as well as an aggressive marketing campaign. The latter featured appearances from brand ambassador Tiger Woods and encouraged golfers to break away from the herd mentality and switch to the superior Bridgestone golf balls for a competitive edge.

"I attribute a record setting 2017 to our ability to outpace all competitors in terms of technological innovation that helps players of all skill levels find their edge," says Angel Ilagan, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf. "While some reports of the health of the industry are not always positive, Bridgestone's commitment to producing the best balls on the market have allowed us to grow at record rates."

An enhanced focus on digital marketing helped to increase brand awareness and product trial among a larger audience. As a result, Bridgestone saw a significant increase in web traffic and quadrupled the previous year’s advertising reach.

"Our success in 2017 came from trial; we know that once someone tries Bridgestone balls the superior performance and results are clear," says Corey Consuegra, Senior Director of Marketing for Bridgestone Golf. "A greater emphasis on digital marketing has allowed us to share our targeted message in an effective way that gives players the confidence to try Bridgestone and ultimately convert to the better ball."

Among the most important product introductions of the year, was the new TOUR B Series of golf balls, which represents the brand’s most technologically advanced offerings to date.  Each of the four models – X, XS, RX and RXS – was developed for a specific player type using data from more than 3 million in-person and online ball fittings, combined with insights from leading third-party industry sources.

The use of data mining and third-party validation is an unprecedented approach to R&D and helped not only bring the TOUR B Series to fruition, but also informed Bridgestone on how to better position its entire golf ball portfolio to fit different player buckets. Low-to-mid handicap golfers will benefit from one of the TOUR B models, while the e6 SPEED and e6 SOFT help mid handicap players hit more fairways thanks to lower side spin from a more forgiving gradational compression core. Lastly, the Extra Soft and Lady are for mid-to-high handicap players and provide best-in-class distance and accuracy as a result of increased ball speed and lower side spin.

"One of the driving forces behind our record setting number of golf balls shipped in 2017 is the wide range of superior product options we offer," says Elliot Mellow, Marketing Manager for Bridgestone Golf. "While our competitors try to shoe-horn golfers into their most expensive offering, we have proven that fitting customers into the best ball for their game delivers on-course results and creates brand loyalty."

The company’s commitment to fitting players to the ball that best suits their game remains the highest priority.  In March, the company introduced the BFIT golf ball fitting launch monitor app designed to help players quickly identify the Bridgestone ball best suited to their game. This real-world understanding of players’ needs has informed numerous technological breakthroughs. More information about the company’s ball, club and accessories offerings is at

Bridgestone Golf’s trajectory has not gone unnoticed by the industry, as the NGF recently released its inaugural list of the Top 100 Businesses in Golf and included the company. This biennial list recognizes the successful companies, organizations and associations that are of fundamental importance to both consumers and facilities involved in the game of golf.

Bridgestone Golf’s professional staff includes 14-time major championship winner Tiger Woods, FedExCup champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympics bronze medalist Matt Kuchar, Masters winner Fred Couples, rising star Bryson DeChambeau and more.

Historic Club to upgrade existing program using Caddie Management Platform, introduce new Youth Caddies

(San Francisco, CA) – CaddieNow, the popular service bringing caddies back to the game, has signed a contract to provide its ‘Concierge’ on-demand caddie management platform at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, one of the oldest, most respected and prestigious golf courses in America. The CaddieNow platform will grow the existing adult caddie program while also introducing new, youth caddies on weekends and during summer break.

Established in 1860, The Olympic Club has two clubhouses for its 45 holes of golf on three courses, named the Lake, the Ocean and the Cliffs. The club has hosted multiple USGA and PGA events including the U.S. Open five different times. With a membership of more than 10,000, Olympic becomes the largest club in the nation now using CaddieNow.

CaddieNow is a shared-economy app, in the model of ride-sharing platforms like Uber and Lyft. The user-friendly virtual service is gaining popularity in the industry due to how easy it is for golfers to book caddies, caddies to find work, and for courses to offer caddie services.

For courses such as The Olympic Club with existing caddie programs, CaddieNow’s Concierge platform helps minimize costs and simplify operations by providing:
- Flexible Booking - golfers can book using the on-demand app or through existing phone/tee-time management systems.

- Automated payment – golfers can pay caddies directly via credit card through the app or by charging their membership account.
- Caddie Management Dashboard –  a real-time web interface provides the course with status of all caddie requests scheduled, as well as ratings and contact information.

In addition to streamlining caddie management, the CaddieNow Concierge service includes insurance and liability coverage and provides caddies with true independent contractor status.

“We are excited to partner with CaddieNow and offer our members this additional service option,” said Will Hutter, Director of Golf at The Olympic Club. “Being in Northern California, near Silicon Valley, it was a natural and logical move for us to embrace this latest technology in labor and golf. This app is an efficient tool for members to use and for the management of our resources.  It’s just a win-win for everyone involved.”

“This is one of the premier places to play the game anywhere in America” said Dave Cavossa, CaddieNow Founder and CEO. “To bring on board one of the 2017 Golf Digest’s Top 50 courses in the country speaks to the quality and professionalism that CaddieNow offers. This agreement continues our tremendous trajectory of quality growth”.

Founded in 2015, CaddieNow’s mission has been to bring caddies back to the game and make them accessible to golfers of all skill levels at lower costs at any course. The company’s goal is to engage the youngest generation in golf by providing them exposure to the game and entry to multiple courses as caddies. At The Olympic Club, CaddieNow will give local youth, 14-18 years old, the opportunity to caddie and interact with business leaders at one of the nation’s top courses.

To use the service, golfers simply download the free CaddieNow app, which is available for iPhone and Android devices, and register. After golfers enter the course, date and time they plan to play, they receive a confirmation notice from their looper, who will meet them at the course. TPT Golf to Support College Golfers with Play Golf In College

(RENENS, SWITZERLAND) - TPT Golf has chosen Play Golf in College to lead its college golf program. With TPT Golf, Play Golf in College will identify and support elite junior golfers and college golf programs around the country with TPT Golf shafts and shaft education.

Play Golf in College is led by Brad Sparling, a golf instructor and former college golf coach at Duke University and Ohio State University. His Ohio-based company works with elite golfers around the country to help them develop all aspects of their game and navigate the college golf recruitment process.

"Every single golfer we've seen fitted so far has increased their accuracy and improved their distance with a TPT Golf shaft," Sparling says. "Through this collaboration with TPT Golf, we're going to make sure the best players in the country have access to the very best golf shafts. The technology is incredible and elite golfers will love the improved dispersion and feel of the shafts."

Each of TPT Golf's 11 different shaft models is created with the company's revolutionary "Thin-Ply Winding Method," a fully automated manufacturing process that gives TPT Golf the ability to independently tweak each shaft design parameter with the ultimate precision. The robot-driven process ensures unrivaled consistency and unlocks superior performance for golfers of all abilities.

"TPT Golf has created a new and different way of making a golf shaft, and it's a better way," says TPT Golf Director Sebastian Sebayang. "With Play Golf in College, we're going to ensure elite junior golfers and college programs have the shafts and the education they need to take their game to the next level."

TPT Golf's newest shaft, the 15-LKP-LT-LW, will be officially launched at the 2018 PGA Show in Orlando. The low torque, lightweight shaft is designed specifically for the needs of high-speed golfers. In 2017, the 15-LKP-LT-LW was used to earn three wins on the professional Tours: the WGC-HSBC Champions in China, the Turkish Airlines Open (European Tour) and the Indonesian Masters (Asian Tour).

Out is In for 2018 Outer Banks Golf

(OUTER BANKS, NC) – Those looking for an ideal 2018 golf escape should get ready to bask in Coastal Carolina warmth and sunshine — with a wee bit of influence from ocean breezes. In recent years, North Carolina’s fabled Outer Banks (OBX) have begun to transform themselves into a true golf destination offering an array of courses more closely tied to nature’s coastal elements than most along the East Coast.

“The Outer Banks has everything a golfer is looking for when going on a golf vacation – well-manicured courses, great restaurants, a variety of housing options and unique activities other than golf,” says long-time Kilmarlic Golf Club Director of Golf Bryan Sullivan, a former North-South Amateur champion and an All-American at the University of North Carolina.

Sullivan’s Kilmarlic Golf Club is a popular Tom Steele design nestled along the marshland of the Albemarle Sound and host course for both the 2004 and 2009 North Carolina Opens. The wonderful mainland course provides a pure OBX layout with water and wetlands virtually in play at all times.

Host to an annual autumn collegiate event, Kilmarlic is also ideally located just five miles west of the bridge that connects the mainland to the barrier island.

“In 10 minutes,” Sullivan says, “I can have my feet in the Atlantic Ocean.”

In terms of its setting, with several holes playing along a rugged coastline Nags Head Golf Links is one of the most exposed golf facilities to the wind along the state’s coast. A Scottish-style course, Nags Head GL is also considered one of the finest. The capricious breezes off sound-side waters create different challenges every time you play it.

Designed by Bob Moore — who clearly followed the adage “don’t mess with Mother Nature” when crafting this gem — the Nags Head layout incorporates the best of links-style golf against a backdrop as dramatic as you’ll find anywhere up and down the Atlantic Seaboard.

The front and back nine closing holes along the sound are particularly spectacular. Nags Head’s bar and restaurant, not surprisingly, is home to the most dramatic sunsets in town, with views not only across the immediate Roanoke Sound, but towards three other sounds (Albemarle, Croatan and Pamlico) that flow into it from the north, west and south as well.

Currituck Club is “sculpted on the type of land where golf began,” says its architect, the renowned Rees Jones, who designed a 6,800-yard masterpiece among 600 acres of dunes, wetlands, maritime forests and sound seascapes. There is, not surprisingly, plenty of water on the course, most of it on the front nine, but unlike Nags Head, most of the water at Currituck Club comes in the form of marsh and wetlands.

Jones is known for moving large amounts of dirt during construction, which is part of the reason his finished product offers a true, championship feel. You won’t find a weak hole at Currituck and the par-3s are particularly stunning, including two that play over water. The best is arguably the signature sixth, located at the hub of the front nine where four holes converge, which plays anywhere from 150 to 200 yards over water, with stunning views of the sound off in the background.

Currituck Club is demanding from tee to green, with undulating fairways that require an accurate tee shot and large, contoured greens that make lag putting among the most challenging elements of the design. Like its OBX brethren, Currituck Club plays longer than its yardage might indicate, as it is designed directly at sea level and is bolstered by constant wind especially along the homeward stretch, where the breeze is almost always in the golfer’s face.

The Pointe Golf Club is located on the rural mainland side of OBX and across the four-lane highway from Kilmarlic. A traditional Russell Breeden design, the course is also said to be the first in the country to have the A-1 bentgrass — a dense, disease-resistant strain — installed across its corridors.

This, of course, is only natural given that the site is a former turf farm combined with rolling farmland. In addition, the management at The Pointe has always devoted itself to providing the finest course conditions imaginable.

The Pointe is also the area’s most player-friendly design and features a peaceful setting with no houses. In fact, it is the only course in the area that is not in a residential community. At a par of 71 with five par-3s, The Pointe can usually be played in four hours, which means more time back at the beach.

Meanwhile, the seventh hole at The Carolina Club is one of the most memorable offerings along the entire North Carolina coast. An island green aged to perfection can create that kind of legend. The 166-yard one-shotter features a TPC Sawgrass-type island green with water, water everywhere. It’s truly an experience to be had.

Still, The Carolina Club is more than a one-hole wonder. As the longest OBX course, it will delight you with liquid challenges that are often compounded by ever-shifting ocean breezes. The Pointe’s sister course features a strong mix of holes with several scenic par-3s (in addition to its signature island green No. 7) and two good risk-reward par-5s to complete each nine.

The Carolina Club’s positioning as the first course heading into town from the north and last one on the way out makes it the ideal play on either side of your OBX golf vacation.

FLUX Golf Passes Performance Threshold with New Face Tech

(SEATTLE, WA) - FLUX, a golf design studio and proven innovator in face insert technology, breaks a long-standing performance barrier in 2018 with DARtech. The patent-pending and USGA-conforming putter face geometry produces positive RPM (topspin) instantly upon striking. In other words, FLUX offers performance through tech, not technique.

Imparting forward roll at a positive-degree launch angle seems simple enough, yet throughout the history of golf this goal has proven elusive. Through a combination of advanced material science and 10 years of R&D in face design, FLUX has cracked the code with the DARtech (Directional Angular Rotation) insert, a progressively angled face pattern offered in stainless steel and polymer. This disruptive innovation is featured in FLUX’s 2018 UNITY putter line.

Traditionally, pro golfers and low handicap players have overcome the natural tendency for the ball to spin backwards off the club face with stroke styles that change the attack angle of the club. DARtech now offers the ability for all players to experience the same benefits of overspin combined with launch angle consistency without having to change their stroke.

Lead Design Engineer J.A. Bergquist has made The Quest for the Perfect Roll his mantra for over a decade, and his over 40 production putter designs have borne results with wins on the PGA, LPGA, Champions and Web.Com tours. “With FLUX, I feel like this journey to create consistent roll in a golf ball has come to its nexus,” states Bergquist. “Years of innovation have led to this point: the most balanced and consistent putter we have ever brought to life, and at the PGA Show, you can feel this synergy for yourself.”

Antigua Announces Early Spring '18 Styles

(PEORIA, AZ) - Antigua Group, Inc. - one of the nation's leading designers and marketers of lifestyle and golf apparel under the distinguished Antigua brand - has released its early Spring 2018 styles.

"Antigua's men's Spring '18 performance golf apparel demonstrates the proliferation of self collar polos that represent current fashion trends as much as they are the ideal styling choice to showcase our proprietary patterns," says Sean Gregg, VP of product development and marketing support. "Though the self collar polo style dominates the men's polo shirt offering this season, the flat knit fashion collar hasn't taken a backseat. When this collection was being conceptualized, integrating the sophisticated and sport-aligned flat knit collar was so important that specific fabrications were designed to pair with this classic style."

Style Exchange integrates the fashion flat knit collar smoothly into the tonal top portion of the dramatically engineered chest design. It uses this season's fashion shades in the upper body and sleeves while partitioning the balance from the placket on down with a seasonal accent-to-white-to-heather-grey neutral hombre stripe that finishes the pattern repeat. Exchange is constructed in a fine gauge jersey, and includes spandex for maximum comfort and stretch. It's stylized with vertically set striped cuffs.

Style Liquid also employs the flat knit collar as a complement to the fabric. A carry forward from last season, it again demonstrates that a pique fabric can be more than utilitarian. Its two-color stripe fabric has been knit into a variegated auto repeat that takes advantage of the pique's birds-eye construction -- creating an iridescent effect that's emphasized alongside solid color stripes, offering a unique color appeal to this otherwise classic pique polo.

Style Aerial shares the same two colors of this season's palette as Liquid, and was created in a supple poly/spandex jersey construction. Its main fabric color showcases the rich, bright colors of this season's collection while the one-inch repeating pinstripe is a subtly contrasting accent color. It's available in eight vibrant color combinations.

For Spring '18, Antigua has placed an emphasis on engineering styles with obvious chest placement accent designs. Five uniquely designed garments with equally uniquely designed patterns have been developed to spotlight this trend. Style Unite subtly uses multi-color end-on-end feed stripes intermittently paired, while engineered chest panel style Unite defines the chest stripe trend. Made of the softest poly/spandex jersey and sewn with a self-fabric collar with perpendicularly cut cuffs, Unite is a must-have garment this season in any of its five color combinations.

Style Dimension rounds out Antigua's initial Spring '18 new designs. It's a contemporary print with asymmetric linear accents set against a tonal seasonal color background. The contemporary performance golf polo incorporates the same linear pattern used as accents in tone-on-tone shades throughout the fabric design. Its self-fabric collar completes the updated look and achieves a complete print color matching.

U.S. Open’s Long Island Return Highlights 2018 USGA Championship Schedule

Women’s Open Moves to May; Inaugural Senior Women’s Open Slated for July

(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J.) – The United States Golf Association (USGA) confirmed the sites and dates for its 2018 championship schedule, which includes 14 annual championships and four international competitions. The season begins with this weekend's fourth Latin America Amateur Championship, which will be played from Jan. 20-23 at Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago, Chile.

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., will host the 118th U.S. Open from June 14-17, the club’s fifth U.S. Open. The 73rd U.S. Women’s Open moves in advance of the U.S. Open and will be played May 31-June 3 at Shoal Creek in Shoal Creek, Ala. The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo., will host the 39th U.S. Senior Open from June 28-July 1. The inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open is slated for July 12-15 and will be played at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill.

“The courses hosting in 2018 are excellent partners and we appreciate their efforts in preparing to conduct exemplary championships,” said Stuart Francis, USGA Championship Committee chairman. “The USGA has always honored the history of the game, so it is fitting that we are returning to two of the Association’s five founding clubs. Shinnecock Hills is the lone venue to host U.S. Opens in three centuries and Chicago Golf Club was founded by Charles Blair Macdonald, a major figure in early American golf.”

This will be the 10th time the U.S. Open has been played on Long Island. Shinnecock Hills hosted the second U.S. Open in 1896, with James Foulis defeating defending champion Horace Rawlins by three strokes. In 1986, Raymond Floyd shot a final-round 66 to break out of a tightly bunched field to win by two strokes. In 1995, Corey Pavin clinched his two-stroke victory over Greg Norman with a memorable 4-wood approach to the final green. In 2004, Retief Goosen outlasted Phil Mickelson by two strokes to claim his second U.S. Open title.

The U.S. Women’s Open will begin in the month of May for the first time since 2001 and is part of a reorganization of the USGA’s championship schedule. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Shoal Creek will host its third USGA championship. It previously hosted the 1986 U.S. Amateur and 2008 U.S. Junior Amateur championships.

The inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open will be the 12th USGA championship at Chicago Golf Club. The championship is open to both female professional and amateur players with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 7.4 who have reached their 50th birthday as of the first day of competition. The format for the 120-player field will mirror the other USGA Opens. Chicago Golf Club, the oldest golf club in the U.S. in continuous use at the same location, was renovated in 1923 by Seth Raynor and remains largely unchanged today.

The Broadmoor will host its eighth USGA championship with the U.S. Senior Open and the sixth on its East Course, originally designed by Donald Ross. Eduardo Romero became the second Argentinean to win the Senior Open in 2008, while So Yeon Ryu won the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open in a playoff. In 1959, Jack Nicklaus won the first of his two U.S. Amateur triumphs, while Annika Sorenstam claimed the first of her three U.S. Women’s Open titles in 1995. The East Course also hosted the 1962 Curtis Cup Match.

The 40th Curtis Cup Match, a biennial competition between female amateur teams from the United States and Great Britain and Ireland, will be contested at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y. The USA Team will look to reclaim the Curtis Cup June 8-10, in between the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Open.

Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links will host the 118th U.S. Amateur from Aug. 13-19 with Spyglass Hill Golf Course serving as the stroke-play co-host venue. The two courses also combined to host the U.S. Amateur in 1999. The Golf Club of Tennessee will be the host site for the 118th U.S. Women’s Amateur, the 16th USGA championship in the Volunteer State.

The 71st U.S. Junior Amateur and 70th U.S. Girls’ Junior championships will be played the same week, July 16-21 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., and Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif., respectively. The 38th U.S. Mid-Amateur and 32nd U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur will also be held the same week, Sept. 22-27 at Charlotte (N.C.) Country Club and Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., respectively. The Junior Amateur and Mid-Amateur champions will earn full exemptions from qualifying into the 2019 U.S. Open, while the Girls’ Junior and Women’s Mid-Amateur champions will be exempt into the 2019 U.S. Women’s Open.

2018 World Long Drive Schedule Announced; Five Events Live in Primetime on Golf Channel

New Televised Events Include Stops in Arizona, Atlantic City & Tennessee

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – Coming off record viewership and a season fueled by emergent dynamic personalities, the World Long Drive Association (WLDA) today announced its 2018 schedule, which will feature five televised events airing live on Golf Channel. The announcement comes following September’s Volvik World Long Drive Championship that was televised in nearly 80 countries around the world as Justin James and Sandra Carlborg claimed their respective World Championship belts.

The five televised events are an increase from three in 2017, and collectively account for half of the 10 events on the 2018 World Long Drive schedule, each airing live and in primetime on Golf Channel. Featuring both the Open and Women’s Divisions, three new events are coupled with the return of the Clash in the Canyon (Mesquite, Nev., Tuesday, April 24) and the 2018 Volvik World Long Drive Championship (Thackerville, Okla., Tuesday-Wednesday, Sept. 4-5), which will be staged at the WinStar World Casino & Resort for the fourth consecutive year. The new events include:
· Ak-Chin Smash in the Sun (Maricopa, Ariz., Tuesday, May 15)

PING Introduces Spring Product Line-up

(PHOENIX) - Setting new standards in combined MOI and forgiveness for a driver, PING today introduced the new G400 Max driver along with the G700 irons, Glide 2.0 Stealth wedges and PING Vault 2.0 putters. The new products are available for pre-order beginning today.

“We’re on a mission to help golfers play better, and we know that starts with clubs that deliver across-the-board performance gains,” said John K. Solheim, PING president. “The new G400 Max is engineered with the same technology as the original G400 but we’ve optimized the size to gain even more forgiveness, which leads to tighter dispersion and lower scores. With the addition of the Max to the G400 driver family, golfers now have four fitting options to ensure they’re getting the most out of their game. If you struggle finding the fairway with consistency, the Max is likely the best fit for you.”

G400 Max Driver
In the G400 Max driver, PING achieved its all-time high MOI measurements by optimizing the crown and face design in the larger-profile, multi-material head. The forgiveness gains are attributable to the 460cc head and nearly four times the discretionary weight created by Dragonfly crown technology and the thin, forged face. Its high-density tungsten back weight wraps around the back of the sole to help bring the combined MOI (heel/toe and high/low) over 9,900 gram cm2. Its CG position is lower and farther back than any current driver on the market to make it the most forgiving driver in golf – surpassing the current G400 driver.

“Our engineers focused on increasing the forgiveness of the driver while maintaining the distance gains and powerful sound of the original G400 driver,” said Solheim. “It’s remarkable how long and straight the G400 Max flies. The forgiveness is off the charts and leads to tighter dispersion, which reveals just how consistent your distance and accuracy results will be on the golf course. We encourage all golfers to get fit and look closely at their dispersion, not just their one best shot on a launch monitor.”

The added forgiveness has also appealed to a number of tour professionals, including PING Pros Aaron Baddeley and Seamus Power, who put the G400 Max in play at last week’s Sony Open in Hawaii.

The unique forging and patented heat-treatment process of the G400 Max’s T9S+ face powers a thinner, hotter impact area that is precision machined to elevate ball speed across the entire face. The forged face was also instrumental in producing the powerful feel of the driver.

Adding to the appeal of the G400 Max driver is the innovative color-shifting paint technology of the Alta CB shaft. This premium copper shaft paint transitions to nearly black to reduce distractions as golfers address the ball. The counter-balanced design of the Alta CB allows for more mass in the head to increase energy transfer.

Glide 2.0 Stealth Wedges
The Glide 2.0 Stealth wedges’ 8620 carbon steel head and precision-milled grooves deliver a softer feel and higher-spinning shots for greater control. The tour-inspired Stealth finish, which yields less glare and makes the head appear smaller, is applied using a QPQ (Quench Polish Quench) process for added durability. This wedge fits the game and the eye of players for whom performance and appearance go hand in hand.

A patented precision wheel-cut half groove near the lead edge on the 56⁰, 58⁰ and 60⁰ improves engagement with the ball (specifically low on the face) to significantly increase spin and control from all conditions. The wheel-cut milling process was developed by PING’s engineering and manufacturing teams to enable grooves with a sharper edge radius, which increases interaction with the cover of the ball at impact, creating more friction for improved spin and trajectory control. The grooves in the lower-lofted wedges (46°, 50° & 52°) are milled with a 20° sidewall and a .005" edge radius for optimal full-shot performance. The higher-lofted versions (54°, 56°, 58° & 60°) are milled to a .004" edge radius and a 28° sidewall to impart more spin, especially around the greens.

“The tour player response has been exceptional,” said Solheim. “The players first comment about the Stealth finish, which not only looks cool, they like how it makes the head appear smaller and it limits reflections on bright days. Once they feel it and see how much spin and control the grooves provide, the wedges go straight in the bag.”

The patented design is offered in four sole grinds (SS, WS, ES and TS) to ensure Glide 2.0 Stealth wedges can be fit to a golfer’s divot depth or attack angle and most common turf conditions.

SS GRIND  (46°/12°, 50°/12°, 52°/12°, 54°/12°, 56°/12°, 58°/10°, 60/10°)
An all-purpose mid-bounce sole with heel and trail edge relief to create versatility on touch shots around the green. Ideal for moderate attack angles and divots. Fits most golfers.

WS GRIND (54°/14°, 56°/14°, 58°/14°, 60/14°)
Full-sole design that provides turf security for players with a steep angle of attack. The reduced camber and added width prevent digging.

TS GRIND (58°/6°, 60°/6°)
A PING WRX-inspired design based on the Tour-proven half-moon grind. The TS grind facilitates shot making and precision from even the most difficult lies. The heel relief allows shots to be executed with an open face to difficult pins or from firm lies without fear of the lead edge sitting too high.

ES GRIND (54°/8°, 56°/8°, 58°/8°, 60°/8°)
Eye 2-inspired sole design provides the ultimate in bunker performance, resulting from the classic dish profile and the tapered hosel. A refined lead edge upgrades all-around performance with the iconic ES grind.

G700 Irons
In the G700 iron, PING engineers put a high priority on creating an iron that offers power and forgiveness by leveraging the advantages of a hollow-body design and a thin, maraging steel face, creating PING’s longest, highest-flying iron to date.

“The desire for golfers to hit their irons farther continues to grow,” said Solheim. “We want to provide options that greatly increase distance without sacrificing other performance attributes, such as consistency, forgiveness and feel. With the G700 iron, we’ve been able to accomplish all of that in a very appealing design with a sound that screams distance from the moment golfers hit it.”

The hollow-body construction of the 17-4 stainless steel head allows for an internal geometry design that positions weight away from the face, creating a frame for metal-wood-like flexing and high COR to greatly increase ball speed and produce launch results that will amaze golfers.

Maraging steel, which is also used in the G400 fairway woods, hybrids and crossovers, is one of the strongest alloys in the world and is commonly employed in the aerospace industry, where strength and flexibility are necessities. Those properties make it an ideal face material to deliver more flexing for faster ball speeds that launch shots farther and higher.

“We’re seeing significant ball-speed increases in the G700 while maintaining the consistency and control golfers need to improve their iron play,” said Solheim. “It also has a great overall look, especially at address, and a premium finish. When golfers hit it, they’ll experience a sensation and sound that’s unlike any they’ve ever felt or heard.”

PING Vault 2.0 Putters
The next generation of PING’s 100%-milled putters are crafted and engineered to provide tour-caliber touch and performance through proven innovations like precision-milled, patented True Roll Technology (TR), plus a new custom-weighting system. The new system offers sole weight options in steel (standard weight head), tungsten (15 gms heavier than standard) and aluminum (15 gms lighter than standard) to match a golfer’s feel and balance preferences.

“The PING Vault 2.0 putters are luxurious works of art that are engineered to perform,” said Solheim. “The craftsmanship and materials used in our milling and finishing processes ensure premium, eye-catching designs that appeal to the most discerning golfers. The ability to customize the weights provides golfers a putter uniquely built to fit their game.”

Precision-milled TR technology ensures full-face forgiveness for consistent speed off the face. The individually milled face pattern varies in depth and pitch across the face, which speeds up off-center impacts, improving consistency and ultimately leading to fewer three-putts.

“As we advance the technologies we apply in designing and manufacturing our putters, we’re able to offer more putter-fitting options than ever,” said Solheim. “The precision with which we mill the PING Vault 2.0 putters allows us to fine-tune the specifications that best match a golfer’s stroke and feel preference. With our new weighting system, we’re able to add or reduce the overall headweight to achieve the best balance for each player which will lead to more consistency on the greens.”

Golfers can choose from three premium finishes (Stealth, Platinum or Copper) in five models precision-milled from 303 stainless steel, including the new Dale Anser, which is inspired by one of the original Anser putter molds created by Allan Dale Solheim and detailed by his father, Karsten Solheim. The award-winning Ketsch mallet (Stealth or Slate finish) combines a fully-machined 6061 aerospace-grade aluminum body with a stainless steel sole plate for an extremely high MOI and offers exceptional alignment features. All the models are fit for stroke and designed with varying alignment aids to fit a golfer’s preferred look and alignment style.  As part of the custom building process that ensures optimal balance, putters between 34" and 36" in length are built with steel sole weights; models 34" and shorter feature tungsten weighting; putters built 36" and longer use aluminum weights.

Four proprietary PING Pistol tapered grips provide golfers with variances in shape and feel. The PP60 is a midsize, lightweight design with a foam under-listing and dominant flats for face awareness. The PP61 has an exaggerated pistol to fit the contour of the golfer’s hands, and a rubber under-listing for a softer response. The PP62 is a lightweight, oversized grip with a rounded profile. The CB60 is standard on custom counter-balanced putters in the line.
